Aston Villa's win over Chelsea was highly-impressive and underlined how the team are coping admirably minus Gareth Barry and Martin Laursen.
When Barry quit for Manchester City last summer and Laursen retired, I feared for my old club’s ability to crack the top four.
Yet all the signs are the team I supported as a boy are still a force to be reckoned with.
I had skipper Stiliyan Petrov on my talkSport show after their fine 2-1 win at Villa Park.
And he explained how impressed he has been with their new signings like Richard Dunne and James Collins, who both scored against Chelsea.
I also had a lot of texts from Villa fans saying how pleased they are they did not get Matthew Upson and ended up with Collins instead from West Ham.
Although it is going to be very difficult for Villa to mount a title challenge, I am so proud of the players in terms of their application and efforts.
If O’Neill can tickle owner Randy Lerner under the chin and try and squeeze out another £50million in January then we really could be title challengers
