He has been outspoken about the England team, but would you pick him if you were England manager?
| Quote: | STEVE McCLAREN is facing opposition from senior England players today over his plans to hand controversial Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton a first call-up to the full squad.
Barton has enraged several high-profile members of the England squad by criticising their decision to release books in the aftermath of last year’s failed World Cup campaign.
Stars including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney were among those targeted by Barton for attempting to cash in following England’s dismal showing in Germany.

McClaren now faces a dilemma over whether to name him in his squad for next week’s friendly against Spain and risk creating a division among his players, or leave the 24-year-old out to preserve harmony within the squad.
“I’d never write a book unless I’d done something,” said Barton of the England stars who rushed into print in the wake of the World Cup. “Maybe if I achieve everything I want and I win trophies, I’ll write a book.
“But England did nothing, so why were they bringing books out? ‘We got beat in the quarter-finals. I played like s***. Here’s my book.’ Who wants to read that? I don’t.”
Barton has been in impressive form and McClaren has long been an admirer of the combative Merseysider, marking him out as a future international on several occasions.
On form alone, Barton’s inclusion in the squad is beyond question. And with Owen Hargreaves recovering from a broken leg, there is a feeling it is now or never for Barton to receive a call-up.
But Barton’s disciplinary record, along with his habit of speaking his mind despite the consequences, have left McClaren in a difficult position. |

Definitely, he gets stuck in and doesn't fanny about on the pitch, not McClarens type of player, I'm surprised he picked him for the squad. _________________

|

Abso fucking lutely
Good player, a lot will be put on him because of his half brother who is in prison for the murder of that black lad (sorry I forget his name), but hey it wasn't Joey who killed the poor lad was it.......I wouldn't mind seeing him in a claret and blue shirt _________________
